Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky

Tchaikovsky is a Russian composer most famous for his ballet music.  He composed the music for Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, and of course, The Nutcracker, a Christmas tradition He also wrote the 1812 Overture, a piece of music that tells the story of a Russian military victory over the French.  This piece is played every 4th of July by the Boston Pops at the end of their concert on the Esplanade (its the one with the canons!).  Tchaikovsky is truly one of the most famous composers of the Romantic period of music history.
