Music Centers

This week in music class, all of the 3rd 4th and 5th grade classes were learning in music centers. The first was the violin center, where each level was working on learning a new song. The second was the Composer of the Month center where the students got to dive more deeply into our current composer Mozart’s life and music. The third was a Game Center focused on music learning games. The fourth was a reading center that gave the students a chance to explore the many books in the music room library. The fifth was the S.Q.U.I.L.T center ( Super Quiet Un Interrupted Listening Time), where the students had the opportunity to listening to any piece of their choosing and write about it. All of the students enjoyed there time in the centers and I’m excited to continue using them, and changing them as the year goes on!

Open House Tonight!

schoolhouse

Welcome back to school parents!  Please feel free to stop in and say “hi” in the music room tonight!  Ms. Berger and myself will both be available to talk to throughout the evening!  Fourth and Fifth grade parents can drop off your student’s recorder so that they can play it in class throughout the year.

I can’t wait to see everyone and meet new faces!

Heroes Assembly

At the beginning of the school year there are always so many things to prepare and plan for.  Having a all-school assembly the second week of school is always a daunting task, but after its completion each year I am always so glad that we do it.  The Heroes Assembly will always be a special moment for our school, when we pause to honor our local heroes, as well as remember those who can no longer be with us.  It is always a pleasure to see our town police officers, firefighters, and especially the McGuiness family as we reflect on the events of September 11, 2001.  As always our Fifth Graders did a fantastic job at putting on a wonderful performance, even in the 96 degree heat! Here are some photos from yesterday’s assembly:

New and exciting things in Music Land!

Hello everyone!

I am very happy to announce that we have two new members of our musical family here at Pine Glen.  First we are very lucky to have Ms. Berger as our new music teacher in the building.  She will be here on Mondays and Thursdays to co-teach Chorus rehearsals as well as a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade class.  Welcome Ms. Berger!

We are also super excited to welcome a new piano into the building! After many years of sub-par instruments in the cafeteria, we now have a brand new shiny black Yamaha piano to call our own!  I cannot wait to hear Mrs. Corum play it at our Winter Concert!

Welcome to Pine Glen Ms. Berger and our new piano!!! Here is a picture of Ms. Berger posing with our newest instrument!

Welcome Back! (Get ready to perform!)

Welcome back Pine Glen musicians!!!

I hope you have had a wonderful summer and are as eager as I am to begin a new year!  Believe or not, our first performance will be on September 11th for our annual Heroes Assembly.  Even though the whole school will be participating in the singing of patriotic songs, the 5th grade will be in the spotlight singing two songs we learned back in June!  Here are the lyrics to refresh your memory:

Armed Forces Medley

You Are Our Heroes

Please take some time to review these lyrics before that Wednesday!  Also be sure to check out the important dates tab, and the composer of the month.

See you soon!
